Princeton finished third at the 2022 EIWA Championships, tying its best finish since its 1978 title, along with third-place finishes in 2017, 2018 and 2019. The team had nine placewinners, tying the 1975 team for the most in program history. Five Tigers, including Patrick Glory (125), Marshall Keller (149), Quincy Monday (157), Travis Stefanik (184) and Luke Stout (197) earned bids to the NCAA Championships with their finishes.
Here's a look at how each Tiger wrestler on Sunday afternoon fared:
125: Patrick Glory
Top-seeded Glory, who clinched his NCAA Championships bid with his win in the semifinals earlier Sunday, saw his 40-match win streak come to an end with a 19-6 loss to Cornell's second-seeded Vito Arujau. Glory, a junior, was a two-time defending EIWA champion. Arujau had three first-period takedowns on the way to a 6-3 lead after a period on his way to the win.
133: Nick Kayal
Kayal, a sophomore seeded 10th and making his EIWA Championships debut, finished sixth as 11th-seeded Richard Treanor of Army West Point was a 9-8 winner in the fifth-place match. Kayal had two first-period takedowns to lead 5-3 after one and was in front of 6-5 after two. Treanor had a takedown and a two-point near-fall in the third to pull in front.
141: Danny Coles
Coles, a freshman seeded eighth, was an 11-4 winner over Hofstra's 14th-seeded Justin Hoyle in Coles' EIWA debut. Coles had five takedowns over the match with two in each of the final two periods, never allowing Hoyle one in the win.
149: Marshall Keller
Keller, a junior seeded 16th, is headed to the NCAA Championships after defeating four higher-seeded opponents in the consolation draw to make the third-place match and clinch a bid. Keller had an escape in the second period for the first points of the match against third-seeded Max Brignola of Lehigh, but Brignola answered with a takedown in the second and a reversal in the third to pull in front on the way to a 5-3 win. It was Keller's second place-winning finish at the EIWAs in three trips, along with an eighth-place finish in 2019.
157: Quincy Monday
Monday, a senior seeded second, had two first-period takedowns to lead 4-2 after a period against fourth-seeded Andrew Cerniglia of Navy on the way to a 9-4 win while adding another takedown in each of the last two periods.
