Columbia Bests Baseball in Doubleheader Sweep

New York, N.Y. — Princeton was dealt a pair of defeats at the hand of Columbia in a Saturday doubleheader. Columbia snatched the matinee after a 10th-inning walk-off single sealed a 7-6 victory. In game two, the Lions put in a strong performance at the plate to take the series with a 16-1 victory.
Brendan Cumming continued his hot hitting streak in game one. The Tigers' leader in hits went 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Matt Scannell kept lighting up Ivy League pitchers with a pair of RBI in game one. He leads all Tigers with six RBI and a .474 batting average in five conference games.
Eric Marasheski started both games of Saturday's doubleheader and hit his second home run of the season in game one. Kaden Kram mashed his first collegiate home run in game two with a solo shot over the high wall in center field.
Jackson Emus imposed himself on the series opener in his sixth start of the season. Princeton's ace pitched seven innings with five strikeouts and two walks.
Game 1
Princeton got to work early as a leadoff single from Cumming set the table for Scannell's RBI single in the first inning. Cumming later drove in the Tigers' second run in the second inning, and Alejandro Espinel made it 3-0 after a wild pitch plated him from third.
Columbia got on the board with an RBI single in the bottom of the second, but Emus locked in and held the Lions scoreless from the third until the sixth inning.
Princeton extended its lead to 4-1 in the fifth with Scannell's second RBI single of the day.
Columbia made it a one-run game with consecutive RBI singles in the bottom of the seventh. A two-run home run from Marasheski gave Princeton a three-run, 6-3 cushion in the top of the eighth, but the Lions punched back with a three-run home run to knot the game at 6-6 heading into the ninth inning.
Princeton's bats couldn't get going, and after a two-out single by Columbia in the bottom of the tenth, the Lions completed their comeback with a walk-off RBI single to into the gap.
Game 2
The hosts burst out of the gates with a pair of four-run innings in the second and fourth to take an early 8-0 lead. Princeton got one on the board in the bottom of the fifth via Kram's first collegiate home run, but Columbia immediately responded with three more runs in the bottom of the fifth.
The Lions added five more runs in the final four innings while silencing the Princeton bats to secure a 16-1 series-clinching victory.
The two teams will duke it out once more with Sunday's series finale slated to start at 1 p.m.
