Ivy Champions! Princeton Sweeps Team, Medalist Honors
April 24, 2022 | Women's Golf
For the seventh time in program history and the third time in the last four opportunities, the Princeton women's golf team won the Ivy League championship on Sunday at The Ridge at Back Brook in Ringoes, N.J.
Princeton finished at +28, three strokes in front of Columbia, to win the Ivy title. Rookie Victoria Liu finished at even par to win medalist honors by five strokes in front of Columbia's Jennifer Wang to become Princeton's 11th Ivy League individual champion since the tournament began in 1997 and first since 2017. Liu is the second Princeton to win medalist honors as a freshman, along with Avery Kiser '05 in 2002.
The 2022 title joins those won in 1999, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2017 and 2018. With the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 events, Princeton has won three of the last four Ivy championships awarded.
With the Ivy championship, Princeton has the league's automatic bid to the NCAA regionals, to be held May 9-11. The six regional site hosts are Stanford, Vanderbilt, New Mexico, Michigan, Oklahoma State and Florida State. The regional assignments will be announced on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on the Golf Channel.
Liu earned first-team All-Ivy honors with the finish, and sophomore Yu Kyung Kim and rookie Kyung Eun Lee were second-team honorees, finishing seventh and in a tie for 10th as all three All-Ivy Tigers earned the honors in their Ivy Championship debuts.
