Â
LONDON – The Princeton University men's basketball team will be one of four teams playing in the 2022 London Basketball Classic, as announced by Inspirus Sports Wednesday morning.
Â
Joining the Tigers from Nov. 24-26 will be Manhattan College and Northeastern University, along with a fourth team to be announced. All games will take place in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, inside Copper Box Arena, the London 2012 Olympic Basketball Venue.
Â
"We are thrilled to be one of the four teams to participate in the London Classic this year," said Franklin C. Cappon-Edward C. Green '40 Head Coach Mitch Henderson. "It is an incredible opportunity for our student-athletes to experience international hoops while representing Princeton University. We are thankful for this opportunity and excited to compete with the other teams in London."
Â
Princeton opens on Nov. 24 against the fourth team in the tournament, while Manhattan takes on Northeastern. The winners will play in the championship game on Nov. 26, and the losers in the third-place game.
"We are excited to announce NCAA Division I collegiate basketball at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London's Copper Box Arena on this Jubilee week," said Executive Director of the London Basketball Classic Marc Mulholland. "The legacy of basketball at the 2012 Olympic Copper Box Arena, home of the BBL London Lions, is a perfect setting for us to host our first London international basketball event. This will be a Thanksgiving to remember for our teams and their fans. We hope to celebrate in style with the support of the great British basketball fans on November 24th and 26th."Â
Ticketing information, along with game times and broadcast details will be announced at a later date.
Â
The Tigers are coming off a 2021-22 campaign that saw them win the Ivy League Championship outright, earn a 23-7 overall record and a 12-2 record in conference play, defeat power five opponents South Carolina and Oregon State, and set four new team records.
The 2022 London Basketball Classic will be a homecoming for rising senior Tosan Evbuomwan, a native of Newcastle, England, and the unanimous 2022 Ivy League Player of the Year.
