Morey And Koelzer Lead Women's Hockey Contingent At NHL Development Camps
July 12, 2022 | Women's Ice Hockey
As NHL organizations gather for their annual Development Camps around North America this week, a pair of women will represent Princeton Hockey among the coaching groups.
Current head coach Cara Morey will be returning to the Philadelphia Flyers camp for the second year, while Kelsey Koelzer '17 in coaching with the Arizona Coyotes.
Koelzer, currently head coach at Arcadia, is attending Coyotes camp through their Diverse Coaching Internship Program. She is joined by Hockey Canada's Kori Cheverie. They will shadow the team's coaching staff, including head coach André Tourigny, during the team's rookie development camp at the Ice Den this week, and serve as assistant coaches during the scrimmages on Friday.
"From the moment my feet hit the ground here, it's been so welcoming," said Koelzer. "I am super excited to learn. I have a team back home at Arcadia and I am excited to see their growth. If there is something I can bring back, a different way of teaching, a new drill or technique, I am excited to be a sponge and oberseve as much as I can."
Koelzer is part of the second group to participate in the Diverse Coaching Internship Program in Arizona.
"I'm really looking forward to them having a meaningful impact on our team, on our players, on our coaches, our training staff, and then giving them a chance to sit on the bench of an NHL team and continue their development as coaches, which will hopefully one day lead to a permanent opportunity on a bench for an NHL franchise," said Coyotes President and CEO Xavier A. Gutierrez.
On Tuesday, Koelzer met with the media at the Coyotes' facility, joining Reverie, Coyotes' general manager Bill Armstrong and head coach Andre Tourigny to speak about the program. Morey will meet with the Philadelphia media on Thursday.
