MacNab's Hat Trick Sparks Princeton to Season-Opening Win over Colgate
August 26, 2022 | Women's Soccer
All four Princeton goals came in a span of nine minutes and seven seconds, a stretch that saw Tiger sophomore Heather MacNab get her first career hat trick and rookie Kelsee Wozniak her first collegiate goal in her Tiger debut in a 4-2 win over Colgate Friday night on Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.
MacNab is the first Tiger to net a hat trick since Mimi Asom '19 on Sept. 22, 2018 against Yale, and she is the first sophomore or younger to do it since Asom on Oct. 29, 2016 against Cornell.
Wozniak assisted on MacNab's second and third goals before scoring Princeton's fourth, making it a four-point game.
After a Colgate goal from Ally Giovino less than two minutes into the game, Princeton tied it up on a MacNab header off a Kamryn Loustau corner kick just past 10 minutes into the game. Not five minutes later, Wozniak sent a cross that found MacNab's head to put Princeton in front.
Just two minutes and 10 seconds after MacNab scored twice in the same game for the second time in her Tiger career, she made it a career high, sending home a rebound off a Wozniak saved shot to make it 3-1 Princeton less than 18 minutes into the game.
Wozniak put Princeton up 4-1 before 20 minutes were gone, knocking in a loose ball on a play that started on a Tiger corner kick. A Colgate leg, attempting to clear, instead poked the ball toward the goal, and after a Raider defender and keeper couldn't corral the ball, Wozniak was there to send it in.
Colgate scored what became the game's final goal with just more than 25 minutes gone in the game on a Maddie Cappillo takeaway.
Princeton keeper Tyler McCamey made four saves in the win, and Princeton outshot Colgate 19-9 overall and 9-6 on goal on the night.
