Back for 2022: Princeton returns 13 players who scored a goal last season and two of three keepers who logged time in goal. Lily Bryant led the returners with six goals last season while sophomore classmate Heather MacNab had a team-high seven assists. Tyler McCamey had a 4-0 record in goal and an 0.26 GAA as Princeton's leading returner between the posts.
Revisiting 2021: Princeton finished 15-3-1 overall and 6-1 in the Ivy last year, earning an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament and winning a first-round game for the third time in its four trips to the tournament under Sean Driscoll, defeating Vermont. Driscoll has led the program for six competitive seasons entering 2022 and has led the team to four NCAA tournaments, to the second round in 2015 and 2021, to the quarterfinals in 2017, and to Ivy League titles in 2015, 2017 and 2018.
Strong starts: Princeton has had a history of good starts to the season under Driscoll. In 2021, Princeton opened 5-0-1 and 3-0 to start. Princeton opened 3-0 in 2018, 6-0 in 2017, 6-0 in 2016, and 2-0 in 2015. The only season under Driscoll where Princeton didn't open at least 2-0Â was 2019, where the team was 2-1-1 through four games. The 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
All-Ivy returnees: Junior midfielder Aria Nagai was a second-team All-Ivy honoree in 2021 and is the only returning Tiger to earn first- or second-team All-Ivy during her career.
On Colgate: The Raiders went 7-8-2 last season and 3-4-2 in the Patriot League. This season, Colgate is 0-1-1 to start, opening with a 1-0 loss at Providence before a 2-2 win over Iona llast weekend. Junior Ally Giovino led the team with seven goals last season and has one of the team's two goals this season. Grad student Grace Poncsak had a 1.11 GAA in 12 games and 11 starts in goal last season and has played a half of each of the first two games this season, allowing one goal.Â
On Fairfield: The Stags went 9-7-4 last season and 5-4-1 in the MAAC, making the second round of the MAAC tournament. Junior Elle Scott, a first-team All-MAAC pick last season, co-led the team last season with seven goals and is the leading returner in that stat, and senior keeper Gina Pike had a 1.40 GAA in 13 games played with 12 starts. This season, the team opened with a 2-1 win over UMass last Sunday and was set to visit Holy Cross on Thursday night.
Connections: Princeton head coach Sean Driscoll was the associate head coach at Fairfield from 2010-14, finishing first or second in the league in each of his last three seasons before taking over at Princeton ... Fairfield grad student Maddie Mills played at Dartmouth before continuing her career at Fairfield, getting a start in last season's 3-0 Tiger win ... While Fairfield has 12 New Jerseyans on the roster, though none from Mercer County, one of Colgate's four New Jerseyans went to high school in the capital county, as junior Lauren Rougas is a Princeton High School alum ... Princeton rookie Summer Pierson and Colgate sophomore Cara Schmidlein share an alma mater in The Rivers School (Mass.); Colgate senior and Princeton sophomore Tyler McCamey share one in The Westminster School (Ga.); Fairfield grad student and Princeton sophomore Ella Midura share one in Noble and Greenough (Mass.).
Series histories: Princeton has faced each program multiple times in its history, but not in the past eight years. The Tigers are 6-3-2 all-time against Colgate with the last meeting a 3-1 Princeton win on the road. The Tigers are 2-0-1 in the last three against the Raiders with Colgate's last win coming in Hamilton, N.Y., in overtime, 1-0 in 2004 in what was one of just three losses on the year for Princeton's College Cup semifinal team. It'll be Colgate's first visit to Princeton since a 2012 tie, and the Tigers are 2-0-1 over the last three against the Raiders' at home since Colgate's last win in Princeton in 1991. The series against Fairfield is shorter, with Princeton getting wins in 2001 (4-0, home), 2008 (1-0, home), 2009 (1-0, away) and 2010 (2-0, home). The most recent meeting with Fairfield came in Sean Driscoll's first season leading the Stags.
