Power-Play Pays Off Early for Colgate in Win over Princeton
January 14, 2023 | Women's Ice Hockey
Four first-period goals, all on the power play, gave No. 5-ranked Colgate a four-goal lead before the first period was half over, and the lead was too much for the Princeton women's hockey team to overcome Saturday afternoon in Hamilton, N.Y.
The four goals came over two Princeton penalties, the second of which was a five-minute boarding penalty that saw three Colgate goals scored during the advantage. Princeton outshot Colgate on the day 55-43 overall and 31-27 on goal.
Princeton got on the board with less than four minutes to go in the first period as Dominique Cormier, Sarah Fillier and Katherine Khramtsov worked the puck up the ice end-to-end with Khramtsov providing the finish.
Colgate restored its lead with a second-period goal and added another in the third before Princeton scored its second goal just past the midway point of the third period. Annie Kuehl won a faceoff to the left of Colgate netminder Hannah Murphy, and Maggie Connors had a blast right off the draw to add to Princeton's total.
Princeton will return to Baker Rink next weekend with visits from No. 2/3 Yale and Brown.
