Four Double Digit Scorers Power Men’s Basketball Past Penn, 72-60

PHILADELPHIA – Powered by four double digit scorers, the Princeton University men's basketball team earned a 72-60 victory over the University of Pennsylvania, Monday night inside the Palestra. The win marked the seventh-straight for the Tigers over the Quakers.
Senior Tosan Evbuomwan finished with a game and season-high 26 points on 9-for-13 shooting from the field, along with seven rebounds and a game-high three assists. Senior Ryan Langborg finished with 13 points on 5-for-10 shooting from the field, while freshman Caden Pierce added 12 points on 4-for-8 shooting along with a game-high 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Junior Matt Allocco also finished with 10 points for the Tigers.
As a team, Princeton controlled the boards and held a 44-36 rebounding advantage. Defensively, the Tigers limited Penn to an 0-for-12 night from behind the three-point line.
The game began as a back-and-forth battle, but a three-point play by Evbuomwan gave Princeton a 9-5 advantage with 16:08 on the clock. The Quakers battled back to tie the score at 9-9 with 13:25 left in the half.
A three-pointer by Pierce gave the Tigers the lead, 12-11, at 11:09, but the Quakers would take a 17-16 lead with 8:47 remaining in the half. Penn extended its lead to 22-18 with 5:56 on the clock, but a late Princeton run saw the Tigers take a 25-24 lead after another Pierce three-pointer and a pair of free throws by Evbuom at 2:10. However, it was Penn who would take a 26-25 lead into halftime.
Princeton got off to a strong start in the second half; three-pointer by Evbuomwan with 19:07 remaining gave the Tigers a 28-26 lead, then a pull-up jumper by Allocco with 14:53 on the clock saw Princeton get ahead, 34-30.
A pair of free throws by freshman Xaivian Lee with 12:39 left to play kept Princeton ahead, 38-34, before a 5-0 run consisting of a Langborg three-pointer along with a pair of free throws by Pierce gave the Tigers a 45-38 advantage with 10:38 remaining.
Evbuowman drained a free-throw with 9:11 left to play, and led off a 5-0 run that gave Princeton a double-digit lead, 52-42, with 8:05 on the clock after a Pierce layup. A 6-0 run, sparked by an Evbuomwan layup, would soon after five Princeton a 58-44 lead after an Evbuomwan jumper at 6:30.
With 5:20 on the clock, a jump-hook by Evbuomwan kept Princeton in front 60-47. Penn struggled to make a dent in the Tigers' lead in the dying stages of the contest, and the Tigers held on for the 72-60 victory.
