COLLEGIATE WOMEN'S SPORTS AWARD RELEASE
There's rare air, and then there's rarest air. Beth Yeager has made it into the second group among college field hockey players.
Yeager, already a first-team All-American and region Player of the Year, has been named a finalist for the Honda Sports Award for field hockey, as announced Wednesday afternoon by the Collegiate Women Sports Awards . The award is given to the outstanding player in the country in 12 different sports, and Yeager is one of only four nominees for field hockey.
Â
"We're so thrilled for Beth and for our program to hear the news that she is a Honda Award finalist. To see her recognized as one of the very best of all the great players in college field hockey is very special for everyone on our team. She's a special player and a dominant presence on both sides of the field, and she values her teammates and the overall success of Tiger Field Hockey more than anything."
Â
Yeager was named an NFHCA first-team All-American for the second straight year after a season in which she again led the Ivy League in goals (12) and points (32). She was also named the unanimous Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year, the Mid-Atlantic Player of the Year and a first-team All-Ivy League selection.
Â
Princeton field hockey has produced 11 Honda Award finalists through the years and one winner, Katie Reinprecht, who won the award after the 2012 NCAA championship.
Â
Yeager is a finalist for the award along with Bente Baekers from Northwestern, Penn State's Sophia Gladieux and Erin Matson of the University of North Carolina. Yeager is the only sophomore among the nominees.
Â
The winner will be announced next week, after voting from more than 1,000 college administrators.
