Women's Soccer Team Gets Third Ivy Win, Tops Yale
October 07, 2023 | Women's Soccer
Goals from Drew Coomans, Pietra Tordin and Lexi Hiltunen helped lift the Princeton women's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Yale Saturday night at Roberts Stadium, giving the Tigers their third win in four Ivy games this season as the team continues to move closer to an Ivy League Tournament bid.
With the Columbia-Dartmouth game still to be played on Sunday, Brown (4-0, 12 points) is three points up on both Princeton (3-1, 9) and Harvard (3-1, 9) with Dartmouth (2-1, 6) in the fourth and final Ivy League Tournament spot and Columbia (1-1, 4), Yale (0-3-1, 1), Cornell (0-3-1, 1) and Penn (0-3-1, 1) chasing a tournament bid. Princeton and Harvard will meet next Saturday in Cambridge.
Princeton outshot Yale 19-15 overall and 11-8 on goal.
The Tigers got on the board in the 27th minute when Coomans, who had her first career goal on Wednesday at Penn, sent a ball across the goal mouth and inside the top corner for her second goal in as many games.
In the 54th minute, Heather MacNab got in front of a Yale clearing attempt out of its own 18 and deflected the ball for Pietra Tordin to take it back toward the Yale goal and fire it home from just inside the 18. The goal was Tordin's 10th of the season, marking the 22nd 10-goal season in program history, first since 2018, and 11th for a sophomore or younger.
Yale spoiled the shutout in the 65th minute on an Ellery Winkler goal, but Lexi Hiltunen restored the two-goal margin with three-plus minutes to go, knocking in a rebound off a Tordin shot.
