Vinci Breaks Single-Season Record With Grand Slam; Princeton Drops Rider, 9-6

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Princeton Baseball Team took down the Rider Broncs in grand fashion, collecting a 9-6 victory at Sonny Pittaro Field on Wednesday evening.

Kyle Vinci broke the Princeton single-season home run record with his 14th of the season in the eighth inning on a grand slam to put the Tigers in front.

Matt Scannell retired the Broncs in the eighth, leaving a runner in scoring position while Jacob Faulkner threw a 1-2-3 inning in the ninth for his fifth save of the year. Scannell threw two scoreless stanzas to earn the victory.

Scannell led off the contest with a 404-foot blast to right field. A few batters later, Jake Bold brought home Brendan Cumming to make it 2-0.

The Broncs got one back in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single on Socrates Bardatsos.

Eric Marasheski got the run back for Princeton on an opposite field home run in the top of the third frame. Bold added another RBI knock a few hitters later to make it 4-1.

Luke Lesch hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third to cut the Rider deficit to one, 4-3. Caden Shapiro lined a base hit through the right side to bring home the Tigers' fifth run in the top of the fifth.

After single tally in the fifth, a two-run home run by John Volpe put Rider in front, 6-5.

With two outs in the eighth, Cumming singled to left field before a walk by Scott Bandura. Bold hit a ball in the hole at shortstop which loaded the bases for Vinci.

Vinci, worked the count to 2-2, before blasting a ball over the left field fence, giving him the new record, breaking the mark set by Michael Ciminiello in 1996.

Princeton is now 15-17 on the season and will head to Cornell this weekend. The two Ivy foes will play in a single game on Friday at 3:30 p.m. before a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m.
