Baseball Heads To Cornell This Weekend

PRINCETON – The Princeton Baseball Team makes the trip to Ithaca, N.Y. to take on the Cornell Big Red at Hoy Field this weekend.
The Tigers and Big Red will compete on Friday at 3:30 p.m. before a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m.
The Tigers are 15-17 this season with victories over Georgia, Duke, Richmond, Cincinnati, SC Upstate, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn, Monmouth, Columbia, and Rider. The Tigers sit 7-5 in the Ivy League, tied with Yale, with Penn (9-3), Columbia (8-4), Harvard (8-4) ahead of them. The top four teams make the Ivy League Tournament.
Scott Bandura has been one of the best hitters in the country, sitting with a .402 average which is 40th in the NCAA. His 1.36 hits per game are 36th best while his 51 hits are right outside of the top 100 (101st). The junior also leads the team in runs (28), extra base hits (20), total bases (87), slugging percentage (.689), on-base percentage (.469) and stolen bases (nine). He is also on a 24-game on-base streak.
After returning from injury, Noah Granet has produced a .333 average and has scored eight runs. He went 8-for-12 in the series vs. Columbia.
Eric Marasheski is the other player hitting over .300, sitting at .317. He has 16 extra base hits including his first home run of the season at Rider to the opposite field. The Tigers have three other starters hitting over .280 in Jake Bold (.284), Caden Shapiro (.289), and Nick DiPIetrantonio (.294).
Kyle Vinci has been one of the best power hitters in the nation as his 14 home runs are 22nd overall in Division-I. His .47 home runs per contest are eighth as well. His grand slam at Rider was the game-winning hit and broke the single-season Princeton record that was set by Michael Ciminiello in 1996.
Justin Kim paces Princeton in ERA with a 2.86 mark in 34 2/3 innings out of the bullpen. Tom Chmielewski has been the Tigers' best starter with a 3.97 ERA in eight starts. He has struck out 44 hitters in 45 1/3 frames and thrown at least six innings four of his last five outings.
Cornell is 6-20 this year and is 5-7 in the Ivy League. The Big Red has wins over Yale, Ithaca, Columbia and Harvard. Sam Kaplan paces the Big Red with a .298 average while Nathan Waugh has a team-best five home runs. Noah Keller has been Cornell's best starter with a 5.26 ERA in 37 2/3 frames.
