Baseball Falls To Penn In Series Finale
April 09, 2023 | Baseball
PHILADELPHIA – The Princeton Baseball Team fell to the Penn Quakers, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon.
Two bases loaded walks and a hit-by-pitch put the Quakers in front, 3-0, in the bottom of the first.
Princeton got on the board in the third inning. After Caden Shapiro walked to lead off the frame, two strikeouts followed. Eric Marasheski reached first on a dropped third strike before Brendan Cumming was hit by a pitch. Scott Bandura lined a base hit off the pitcher to score the first run before a walk from Jake Bold provided the second tally for Princeton.
Penn loaded the bases with two outs in the next half frame, but Andrew D'Alessio got a fly out to retire the side.
The Quakers got a runner in scoring position in the fourth and loaded the bases in the sixth, but Jacob Faulkner got a fielders' choice to end the threat.
D'Alessio finished with five relief innings, scattering six hits, and picking up three strikeouts.
Penn's Wyatt Hensler hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth to finish off the scoring.
Bandura had two hits, extending his hitting streak to 11. He has nine multi-hit contests during that stretch.
Princeton heads to Monmouth on Wednesday (Apr. 12) for a non-conference battle starting at 3 p.m.
