Heavies Ready For IRAs This Weekend

PRINCETON – The No. 3 Princeton Men's Heavyweight Rowing Team is set for the IRA Championships this weekend at Mercer Lake.
The Tigers earned two silver medals at the Eastern Sprints with the 1V and 2V, marking the first time Princeton had two medals at Easterns since 2016.
Princeton's varsity eight has had a stellar 2023 regular season, earning victories over No. 6 Harvard, No. 10 Brown, No. 12 Cornell, No. 14 Penn, No. 15 Navy, No. 16 Drexel, No. 19 Columbia, No. 20 Temple, No. 22 Georgetown. The boat's only loss was thrilling .9 second loss to No. 2 Yale.
Both victories over Harvard and Brown come after dropping decisions to those Ivy rivals in 2022.
The 2022 IRAs was a successful one for Head Coach Greg's Hughes crew as the varsity four collected gold, the team's first medal since the 2V's bronze medal in 2017. Princeton's 1V's last IRA medal was a bronze in 2016.
Hughes' 1V's heat on Friday is at 8:30 a.m. The 2V8's Friday heat is at 9:40 a.m. with the 3V's heat at 10:10. The varsity four's time trial begins at 11:20 a.m.
Semifinal action will be Saturday with the four's Grand Final going off at 11:40 a.m. The 3V Grand Final is Sunday at 9:20 a.m., with the 2V set for 9:50 a.m. and the V8 at 10:40 a.m.
