The reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Year, Pietra Tordin showed in Friday night's season opener that her sophomore campaign could be one deserving of similar acclaim.

After Princeton spent much of the first half knocking on the door, Tordin broke it down with a finish from rookie Kayla Wong, who scored her first career point on the play.

Just before 20 minutes were gone in the second half, it was Wong's turn to provide the finish, putting the touch on a cross from Kelsee Wozniak to push the Tiger lead to 2-0 with 25-plus minutes to go.

The goal made it four times in Princeton's last five competitive seasons that a freshman has scored a goal in the season opener. Current sophomore Wozniak had one in the 2022 season opener after Grace Sherman '23 scored in the opener in 2019 and Gabi Juarez '22 scored in the 2018 opener.

Tordin had her second career two-goal game, and first since scoring twice on Sept. 1, 2022 at Rhode Island, when Lily Bryant and Jen Estes connected on a series of quick passes that Tordin finished with a turn and a shot on goal.

The Tigers finished with a shot advantage of 20-6 overall and 8-1 on goal with junior keeper Tyler McCamey making a save to keep the shutout, her fifth career complete-game clean sheet.

The win continued Princeton's streak of season-opening victories into an eighth straight competitive season, a run that coincides with head coach Sean Driscoll's tenure with the program beginning in 2015.

Princeton will finish up its season-opening weekend when La Salle visits Roberts Stadium Sunday for a noon start. Admission is free and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
