Four Tigers Score as No. 14 Princeton Posts Ivy-Opening Win over Cornell
September 22, 2023 | Women's Soccer
Jen Estes, Aria Nagai, Marissa Hart and Lexi Hiltunen all had goals as the No. 14-ranked Princeton women's soccer team opened the Ivy League season with a 4-2 win over Cornell Friday night at Roberts Stadium.
Princeton had a 4-0 lead before Cornell scored twice in the final 11 minutes to spoil the shutout. The Tigers outshot the Big Red 16-12 overall and 11-7 on goal.
Estes opened the scoring in the 31st minute after a crossing pass from Lily Bryant that found the torso of Drew Coomans, opening up the chance for Estes to pick up the loose ball on the doorstep of the goal for the finish. Three of Princeton's four goals were put-aways at the goal line.
The lone goal from distance came 13 minutes after Estes's goal, with Nagai burying a free kick from straight on, just outside the 18 in the 44th minute.Â
Building on a 2-0 halftime lead, Hart's goal came in the 57th minute after Heather MacNab fired from the edge of the six-yard box and saw her shot hit a couple of Cornell defenders before Hart picked up the loose change. Five minutes later, MacNab had her second assist, sending the ball toward goal from just outside the 18 for Hiltunen to get a body on and finish.
Kendall Patten and Abigail Bishara had the late goals for Cornell.
The Tigers will step away from Ivy League play to make the trip to Easton, Pa., on Tuesday, taking on Lafayette in a 7 p.m. kick.
