Women's Volleyball Downs Brown For Fourth-Straight Victory

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team won its fourth-straight match and moved 3-0 in Ivy League play Friday night inside the Pizzitola Sports Center, overcoming Brown 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 16-25, 25-20).
Freshman Kamryn Chaney led the way for the Tigers, finishing with a match-high 14 kills. Sophomore Lucia Scalamandre and freshman Erin McNair also tallied double-digit kills for Princeton, finishing with 11 each. Chaney, McNair and sophomore Ella Bunde also each recorded a match-high two service aces. For the third-straight match and the sixth time this season, freshman Sydney Draper had a double-double with a match-high 46 assists and 11 digs. Senior Kathleen Bishop's three blocks were a team-high, as were freshman Sydney Bold's 17 kills.
The Tigers opened the match with a 4-0 run and would extend their advantage to 7-2 after a kill by Chaney. The Bears battled back, using a 4-0 run and a 3-0 run to jump ahead, 15-12. Kills by Chaney and Bishop followed by a Brown attacking error put Princeton in front again, 16-15, and another 3-0 run, this time sparked by a McNair kill, gave the Tigers a 20-18 lead. From there, the Tigers held on for the 25-12 first set victory.
Princeton got off to a strong start in the second start and took a 9-4 lead with help from a 3-0 run featuring a Bishop kill, a Bunde service ace and a Bear attacking error. Another 3-0 run, this time featuring a pair of kill by Bishop and a kill by Scalamandre, gave Princeton a 16-10 advantage helped swing the momentum the Tigers' way. Two more 3-0 runs gave the Tigers an eight-point advantage, 22-14, and Princeton would go to take a 2-0 lead in the match, winning the second set 25-19.
Brown showed resilience in the third set, racing out to an 9-2 lead. The Bears maintained their momentum, going up 16-7, before going on earn a 25-16 victory in the set, sending the match to four.
The fourth set began as a back-and-forth battle, with a 3-0 run sparked by a junior Mariah Haislip kill knotting the score at 11-11. With Brown up 17-15, another Haislip kill led a 5-0 run that put the Tigers back in front, 20-15, after a Chaney block. A kill by Haislip gave Princeton match point at 24-18, then McNair sealed the win for the Tigers with a kill that gave Princeton a 25-20 victory in the set along with the 3-1 triumph in the match.
