Saturday's game is the team's annual game recognizing Let Her Play, an organization promoting the participation of girls in sports.Â
On Princeton: The Tigers (6-3) have had eight goal scorers so far this season, with Alexandra Barry, Brooke Dawahare and Isabella Garces co-leading the team with three goals each and each scoring that third goal on Tuesday against Lafayette. Each also scored her first career goal earlier this season, and each is a freshman (Barry, Dawhare) or sophomore (Garces). Heather MacNab, Kate Toomey, Pia Beaulieu, Drew Coomans and Summer Pierson each have a goal this season with Beaulieu's and Pierson's as her first career goal. Pietra Tordin, who scored 20 goals over her first two seasons, made her season debut on Tuesday after playing at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup and helping Team USA to a third-place finish. Zoe Markesini competed in the tournament with Canada, helping the Canadians make the knockout round. In goal, Tyler McCamey played all of the first eight games, posting an 0.63 GAA before Cecilia Cerone made her first career start and turned in her first career shutout on Tuesday against Lafayette.
All-Time Series: Brown leads the all-time series with Princeton 23-18-4 and has won five straight against the Tigers since Princeton's last win over the Bears, in 2017. In Princeton, the Bears have won the last three since Princeton's last home win over Brown in 2014. Among current Tigers and Bears, only Brown's Kira Maguire and Princeton's Pietra Tordin have scored in the series, each scoring a goal in Brown's 6-1 win at Roberts in 2022. Bella Schopp played the second half in goal for Brown in that game, turning in a shutout half and making two saves. Last year, in Brown's 2-1 win in Providence, Tyler McCamey played the full 90 in goal for Princeton and made three saves.
Ivy Openers: Princeton is 1-0 in the Ivy for the second straight year. Last season, with Princeton also opening against Cornell and then Brown, the Bears prevented Princeton from getting to 2-0. A win on Saturday would get Princeton to 2-0 in the Ivy for the first time since 2021, when Princeton started 2-0 with wins over Yale and Dartmouth before a loss to Brown.
Ivy Titles: Princeton's last Ivy League title came in 2018, and the same program then won the next four titles awarded, with Brown winning in 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023, Brown's first titles since 1994. The Tigers and the rest of the league will try to halt Brown's Ivy title run there, with the four-year streak as the second-longest in league history behind only Brown's eight-year run from 1983-90.Â
100: Sean Driscoll won his 99th game at Princeton on Tuesday, and with his next win, he'd become the second coach in program history to reach 100 wins, following predecessor Julie Shackford, who won 203 games from 1995 through 2014. Driscoll, a three-time Ivy Coach of the Year, has led Princeton to three Ivy titles, five NCAA tournament appearances, four NCAA second-round appearances, and one NCAA quarterfinal run. He's the active leader among Ivy women's soccer coaches in wins at their current post, ahead of Brown's Kia McNeill (83) Harvard's Chris Hamblin (78) and Columbia's Tracey Bartholomew (77).Â
On Brown: The Bears, at 4-2-3, have won back-to-back games, against Northeastern and then the Ivy opener over Harvard. Rookie Ella Weil, who leads the team's 10 goal scorers with four goals, has scored three in the last two games, with two in the 6-1 win at Northeastern and one in the 2-1 win over Harvard. Kira Maguire, who scored in 2022 against Princeton, and rookie Nadja Meite have scored two goals each. Bella Schopp has played most of the minutes in goal, holding an 0.82 GAA while picking up all nine decisions. Eight of Brown's nine games have either been ties or decided by one or two goals with the 6-1 win over Northeastern on Sept. 19 as the lone exception. The Bears are 27-0-2 over their last 29 Ivy games and haven't lost since Oct. 28, 2018 against Penn.
Up Next: The final game of the Tigers' three-match homestand is set for Wednesday, Oct. 9, with Penn coming in for a 6 p.m. kick. After that, just five regular-season games will remain with two at home, Oct. 19 against Harvard and Oct. 26 against Dartmouth.
