Tigers Rally Past UMBC in Non-League Finale
October 22, 2024 | Women's Soccer
Ryann Brown and Pia Beaulieu scored inside the final 20 minutes on Tuesday night at UMBC to help the Princeton women's soccer team rally past the host Retrievers for a 2-1 win in the Tigers' final non-league game of the regular season.
UMBC's Natasha Munro flicked home a cross in the 25th minute, and though Princeton went on to outshoot UMBC 24-5 overall and 7-2 on goal while drawing seven corner kicks to one for the Retrievers, UMBC's lead persisted past the 70-minute mark.
Beaulieu took a corner kick in the 74th minute and found Brown for a header into the net, giving the senior backliner her first career goal and pulling Princeton into a 1-1 tie.Â
Just less than 10 minutes later, Princeton pulled in front, with Kiley Hamou finding Alexandra Barry off a deep throw-in for Barry to turn it around and send a cross across the goal to Beaulieu for the finish and a 2-1 lead.
Sophomore Cecilia Cerone got her second career start in goal, making a save while going the full 90 to get her second career win.
Now 10-4 overall, Princeton will head back into Ivy League play as an Ivy title and hosting duties for the Ivy League Tournament are still at stake. Princeton will host Dartmouth on Saturday at 1 p.m. on the Tigers' Senior Day before ending the regular season on Nov. 2 at Columbia, which enters the penultimate week of the regular season in first place in the league, just one point in front of Princeton.Â
