Women's Volleyball Drops Non-Conference Contest To (RV) Marquette

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team hosted (RV) Marquette in non-conference action Saturday afternoon inside Dillon Gymnasium falling 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-13).
The Golden Eagles earned 34 votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) rankings on Oct. 20, placing them one spot outside the national top 25.
Junior Lucia Scalamandre and junior Kamryn Chaney led the Tigers in kills with six each, with Scalamandre also recording an attacking percentage of .385. Sophomore Sydney Draper led the Tigers in assists with 20, service aces with three and blocks with two. Sophomore Sydney Bold's nine digs were also a team-high.
The first set began as a back-and-forth battle, but the score at 5-4 the Golden Eagles used a 3-0 run to go up four, 8-4. Marquette would soon use another 3-0 run and take a 12-6 lead. A 6-0 Golden Eagle run created a deficit of which the Tigers could not come back, as Marquette won the opening set with a score of 25-13.
While Marquette went on an early 4-0 run in the second set, a 3-0 Princeton run that included a Golden Eagle attacking error followed by consecutive kills by sophomore Ava Harrington made it a one-point set, 7-6. The Tigers continued pushing the Golden Eagles, with a junior Valerie Nutakor kill followed by a Draper kill again making it a one-point set at 16-15. A service ace by Draper made it 21-20, but Marquette held on for the 25-21 second set victory.
Princeton got off to a strong start in the third set, with a Scalamandre kill igniting a 4-0 run that put the Tigers in front, 6-5. Marquette would soon respond with a 6-0 run and jump ahead, 14-8. From there, the Golden Eagles went on to earn a triumph the third set along with a 3-0 win in the match.
