PRINCETON, N.J. – Searching for its fourth consecutive title, the Princeton men's cross country team will compete in the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 2nd.
Princeton will host the championship on the Meadows Campus Cross Country Course, with the women's 6k beginning at 11:00 a.m. and the men's 8k taking place at noon.
About the Tigers
Most recently, Princeton competed on its home course with the Princeton Fall Classic on October 18th, taking third of 22 teams with a score of 92 points. Junior Myles Hogan was the top finisher for the Tigers, clocking in at 23:04.1 for eighth overall. Hogan's performance followed up another top-finish for Princeton at the Nuttycombe Invitational on September 27th, where he took 26th place with a time of 23:58.6.
Nicholas Bendtsen took 15th place (23:14.4), while Weston Brown (23:21.2) and Jackson Shorten (23:21.5) took 19th and 20th, respectively. Connor McCormick was the fifth Tiger scorer, finishing in the 31st spot with a time of 23:36.7.
In the October 22nd USTFCCCA rankings, Princeton took 22nd nationally while claiming the third spot in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Head Coach Jason Vigilante remains at 13th in the individual coaches rankings.
Bendtsen, Shorten and Brown all scored at the Nuttycombe Invitational too, with times of 24:43.5, 24:09.4 and 24:12.7 respectively.
Earlier this season, Princeton took first place in the New Jersey Jam, Sophomore Collin Boler took first place in the New Jersey Jam, finishing the 5.6k with a time of 16:40.5, as he led Princeton to a near-perfect score of 16.
Looking Back at Last Season
Princeton won its 24th and third-consecutive Ivy League Cross Country Championship in 2023, also finishing 11th at the NCAA Championships.
Returning senior Nicholas Bendtsen was the top finisher for Princeton, placing fourth and earning him First-Team All-Ivy honors with a time of 24:08.5. At the NCAA Championships, Bendtsen finished 29th overall and earned All-America honors.
At Mid-Atlantic Regionals, senior Dan O'Brien 12th finished with a time of 29:47.2 to earn All-Region Honors. O'Brien also earned Second Team All-Ivy honors after finishing 11th in the XC Ivy Heps with a time of 24:24.7.
The Tigers have welcomed six new cross country runners in the Class of 2028 including Steven Hergenrother, Avery Keith, Jacob Nenow, Alex Niemiec, and brothers Franco and Marcello Parra.
About Coach Vigilante
Jason Vigilante is in his second season as head coach and 13th season overall with the Tigers.
Vigilante, the 2023 Ivy League Coach of the Year, has helped the Tigers win seven Ivy League Cross Country Championships (2012, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023) and claim five Triple Crowns (2014-15, 2017-18, 2018-19, 2021-22, 2023-24).
He was named head coach of the program on August 9, 2023.
