Women's Volleyball Wins Share Of Ivy Title With 3-1 Triumph At Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team are Ivy League Champions for the 20th time in program history after wrapping up regular season play with a 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-13, 25-17) triumph over Harvard Saturday night inside the Malkin Athletic Center. The victory also secured the Tigers the No. 1 seed for the Ivy Tournament along with hosting rights.
The Tigers' 20 Ivy titles are the most of any team in the conference, with Yale's 14 being the second most. The championship is also Princeton's sixth under Head Coach Sabrina King. The Tigers conclude Ivy League play with a 12-2 record and have earned a spot in the Ivy League Tournament in all three years of its existence. The 2024 Ivy title is shared between Princeton and Yale, with the Tigers earning the No. 1 seed due to a 2-0 record against Cornell, the highest-ranked team outside the tie, compared to Yale's 1-1 record.
Aided by a .379 hitting percentage, Princeton was led by sophomore Kamryn Chaney who recorded her 12th double-double of the season with a match-high 20 kills on a .357 hitting percentage along with 10 digs and four blocks. Junior Lucia Scalamandre added 11 digs and hit .526 while also contributing four digs and three blocks. Sophomore Sydney Draper tallied a match-high 38 assists, nine digs and three blocks while freshman Jackie Onyechi tallied a match and career-high nine blocks. Sophomore Sydney Bold finished with a team-high 11 digs.
Led by a sophomore Erin McNair kill, an early 3-0 run gave the Tigers a 6-2 advantage in the first set. From there, the momentum stayed with Princeton; with Princeton up 17-13 a Crimson service error led a 5-0 run, that saw the Tigers go up 22-13 following a Chaney kill. Another Chaney kill gave Princeton set point at 24-16, then a Harvard attacking error made it a 25-16 first set victory for the Tigers.
Harvard used a 7-0 run to surge ahead early in the second set, 9-2. Ignited by a junior Valerie Nutakor kill, Princeton responded with a 7-1 run to narrow the deficit to two at 12-10. A 5-0 Crimson run came next as Harvard extended its lead to 17-10 and from there, the Crimson would hold on for the 25-22 triumph in the second set.
The third set began as a back-and-forth battle, but with the Tigers up 6-5 a kill by Scalamandre ignited a 6-0 run that put the Tigers in front, 12-5. A 4-0 Princeton run occurred shortly after, which extended the Tigers' advantage to double figures at 17-7. A Chaney kill gave the Tigers set point at 24-13 then an attacking error by Harvard saw the set end with a score of 25-13, as Princeton went up 2-1 in the match.
The fourth set saw the Tigers take a 6-5 lead, before a block by sophomore Ava Harrington sparked a 4-0 run that put the Tigers in front, 10-5. A Chaney kill followed by an Onyechi block saw Princeton extend its lead to 18-11 as the Tigers would have little trouble with the Crimson in the fourth set. A Draper kill made it a 23-17 set before a pair of Harvard errors ended it as Princeton took the set, 25-15, and the match, 3-1.
