Princeton Roars Past Brown, Into Ivy Tournament Final
November 22, 2024 | Women's Volleyball
For the first 10 minutes or so of Princeton's Ivy League tournament semifinal match against Brown Friday afternoon, it looked like there might be an upset starting to form in Dillon Gym. From then on, it was nothing but blue skies for the Tigers.
Princeton fell behind early in the first set and then found a different gear, eventually rolling past Brown in three sets 25-21, 25-10, 25-16. Princeton was down by six points in the first set twice, the last time at 15-9 before outscoring Brown 66-32 the rest of the way.
The win puts Princeton into Saturday's final (6, ESPN+) against second-seeded Yale, who defeated Cornell in four sets in the second match Friday night. The tournament champion will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Brown scored the first four points of the day and sprinted out to leads of 9-4, 11-5 and 15-9, forcing a quick Tiger timeout during the run. Princeton would quickly battle back, with a pair of Kamryn Chaney kills followed by a Shelby Fulton kill to narrow the deficit to one at 16-15. The Tigers tied it up at 18-18 after a kill by sophomore Erin McNair and then took the their first lead at 21-20 following another McNair kill. A Chaney kill would give Princeton set point and then a senior Gracie Wood service ace sealed the set, 25-21.
The third set was again all Tigers, or all Tigers after a 3-3 start. Princeton got to 24-12 on a massive Chaney kill and, after Brown won four straight points, eventually won it on a kill by Fulton.
Chaney, the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year, finished with 16 kills, while Draper finished with 29 assists.

The play of the day came when it was 18-6, when Ella Bunde chased down a deflected ball just in front of the team bench and sent it back to the middle with her back to the net, starting a rally that ended with a Lucia Scalamandre kill, set up by Sydney Draper.S2: PRINCETON 19, BROWN 6
