Singh Sets New 300m Record as Tigers Begin Indoor Season
December 06, 2024 | Women's Track and Field
NEW YORK, N.Y. – With Jazmyn Singh breaking a program record and six other Tigers setting new personal records, the Princeton women's track and field program began the indoor season at the Rutgers Holiday Classic in New York City on Friday.
At the Armory, Princeton claimed three first place finishes and six additional podium spots in their first outing this year.
"This December meet has always been more of a celebration of all the hard work put in the last three months rather than a season open. And what a celebration it was! We had countless season opener bests, all time personal records and a school record. Our team has been laser focused on an indoor championship all fall and this meet was a testament to their collective effort." - Head Coach Michelle Eisenreich
Singh, in her collegiate debut, ran a blazing 39.04 in the 300m to top the program record set in 2020 by Katie DiFrancesco ('21) of 39.29. Her time earned her second place at the meet.
Singh also helped the Tigers to a first place finish in the 4x400 relay, with Khushi Umesh, Maisha Atkinson and Lauren Harris joining her for a final time of 3:49.80.
In the 60m hurdles, Julia Jongejeugd topped the competition with an 8.67 finish for first place. Shantell Kwofie joined her on the podium with a mark of 8.74 for second place.
Kwofie also won the shot put with a new personal best of 14.99m. Siniru Iheoma took second in the event with a mark of 14.95m. Makenna Marshall took fourth with a mark of 13.78m.
Angela McAuslan-Kelly took second in the weight throw with a mark of 17.08m, while Iheoma took third with 16.83m.
In the 60 prelims, Alexandra Kelly and Soraya Patterson each set new personal bests, clocking in at 7.85 and 8.09, respectively. First-year Brooke Jackson ran 7.69 in both the preliminary and final rounds to take fourth place overall.
Three Tigers set new PRs in the 300m, including Asante (39.66), Harris (40.91) and Georgina Scoot (41.77) Asante took fourth place, while Harris and Scoot earned eighth and 13th.
