
Men's Basketball Falls At Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Princeton University men's basketball team was able to overcome a 13-point deficit to lead by seven but fell just short against Furman inside Bon Secours Wellness Arena Saturday afternoon, 69-63.
Junior Xaivian Lee led the Tigers with 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists while sophomore Dalen Davis added 13 points and four rebounds. Junior Caden Pierce tallied 11 points and five rebounds for the Tigers.
A pair of 7-0 runs by the Paladins put Furman ahead, 14-2, with 14:17 on the clock. A pair of free throws by Davis with 13:44 remaining in the half ignited a 7-0 run that narrowed the deficit to five, 14-9, at 11:27.
Furman extended the lead back out to 13, 22-9, with 9:42 left in the half, but a senior Philip Byriel three-pointer followed by a Pierce layup narrowed it back down to seven with 8:57 on the clock, 22-15. Layups by sophomore Jackson Hicke and Byriel then a Davis step-back jumper made it a three-point game with 3:11 remaining in the half, 32-29, but Furman took a 37-29 advantage into halftime.
Princeton bounced back in the second half, with a pair of Lee free throws with 16:42 left in the half sparking a 9-0 run that put the Tigers in front by five, 47-42, with 13:33 remaining after a layup by freshman Peyton Seals. A three-pointer by freshman CJ Happy followed by two free throws by Seals increased Princeton's advantage to seven at 11:27, 52-45.
The Paladins would re-take the lead with 7:43 left to play, 56-54, then a 6-0 Furman run put the Paladins ahead, 62-56, at 5:18. A free throw by Lee made it a three-point game at 64-61 with 00:56 on the clock, but Furman was able to hold on for the 69-63 triumph.
