February 16, 2024 | Women's Basketball
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Kaitlyn Chen recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds as the No. 24/25 Princeton Women's Basketball Team used a second-half rally to take down the Brown Bears, 74-62, at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Friday evening.
Â
With the win, Princeton became the first team to clinch a spot in the Ivy League Tournament. The Tigers have participated in each year of Ivy Madness, having won the last four.
Â
Consecutive three-pointers from Grace Arnolie gave Brown a 47-40 lead with 4:56 to go in the third quarter.
Â
That was the largest deficit for Princeton since it was down eight to Villanova, a game which took place two weeks before Christmas.
Â
It was no problem for the Tigers.
Â
Head coach Carla Berube's squad ripped off 11 of 13 to take a 51-49 lead in a span of three minutes. Ashley Chea's basket with 28 seconds left gave the road unit a 55-54 advantage with a quarter to go.
Â
Princeton locked down Brown in the fourth stanza, allowing just three baskets and eight points overall. The Tigers scored six straight to begin the stanza leading to a Brown timeout.
Â
The Bears never got within five the rest of the way as the Tigers sank seven from the charity stripe over the final two minutes.
Â
Princeton began the contest on a 16-4 run and led by double-digits after the first frame, 20-10. Chen scored seven of her 17 during that stretch, adding five rebounds and three assists.
Â
The Tigers led by 14 in the second quarter before the Bears used a 19-8 sprint to cut their halftime deficit to three, 32-29.
Â
Chen's 10 boards were a career high as she posted her third career double-double. Chea had 12 points off the bench while Chet Nweke was one carom shy of a double-double, contributing 11 points in the win.
Â
Berube's team has won 14 straight games, the eighth longest of her coaching career, and is 19-3 overall and 9-0 in the Ivy League. The Tigers finish the weekend at Yale Saturday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
