No. 12 Princeton Draws RPI to Wrap Regular Season, Will Host Dartmouth to Open Playoffs
February 17, 2024 | Women's Ice Hockey
Sarah Fillier had two goals early and Gabby Kim added one in the second period before the No. 12-ranked Princeton women's hockey team saw Rensselaer make a comeback to draw the Tigers 3-3 in Saturday's regular-season finale in Troy, N.Y.
Fillier's goals, her fourth and fifth of the two-game weekend, came in the game's first three minutes, the first coming on the doorstep as she redirected an Issy Wunder pass in from the top of the left circle just 28 seconds in, and the second coming when she put back a rebound on a Kim shot to put Princeton up 2-0.
RPI answered with a Taylor Larsen power-play goal just more than three minutes into the second period, but Kim's goal restored the three-goal lead less than four minutes before the intermission when she slid one home from the right faceoff dot to make it 3-1.
RPI used goals from Marah Wagner and Aylah Cioffi to pull even, Wagner's goal coming with less than nine minutes to go in the third and Cioffi's just more than five minutes later, and 3-3 was how it ended.
Princeton outshot the Engineers 68-49 overall and 42-22 on goal as Uma Corniea made 19 stops.Â
The goals lifted Fillier to 88 for her career, moving her up a spot to seventh on the program's all-time goals list and just a goal out of a tie for sixth. Now with 188 career points, Fillier remains fourth in program history and as the highest-scoring Princeton player of the 21st century.
Princeton will host Dartmouth in the ECAC Hockey Opening Round next Saturday at 3 p.m. at Baker Rink. Tickets for the single-game opening round will go on sale Monday at 9 a.m. at GoPrincetonTigers.com/Tickets.
