No. 1 Women's Lightweight Rowing Travels To No. 4 Stanford Saturday
April 11, 2024 | Women's Rowing - Lightweight
Redwood, Calif. – The No. 1 Princeton Women's Lightweight Rowing Team heads across the country to take on No. 4 Stanford on Saturday.
"We're excited to build off our success last weekend and our training this week," said Kalena Blake. "This cup race is one of the highlights of the season and it's always exciting to race Stanford."
In their season opener with a strong crosswind, the 2X began the action with an impressive 18.7-second victory (8:19.1-8:37.8). The varsity four responded with an 8:06.8, 2.5-seconds clear of the road squad (8:09.3).
The 1V collected its fifth straight Class of 1999 Cup, rowing across the line at 6:54.6, ahead by 3.3 seconds.
The women's lightweight varsity eight came out fast, leading the field by over two seconds 500m in at the 2023 IRA National Championships. At the halfway mark, the advantage had stretched to six seconds and the boat of Blake, Margaret Murphy, Sarah Fry, Lily Feinerman, Cecilia Sommerfeld, Daisy Devore, Hannah Höselbarth, Lina Schwartz and Sarah Polson were never threatened the rest of the way. Princeton finished with a 6:40.03, 6.2 seconds ahead of Stanford (6:46.31). It was the varsity eight's third consecutive IRA gold medal. That boat has not lost to another lightweight boat since the 2019 IRAs
Princeton finished with 72 points, 15 clear of Boston for the team title and IRA Commissioner's Cup. It's the second straight year that the Tigers have recorded the most points.
