No. 1 Women's Lightweight Rowing Welcomes Georgetown To Lake Carnegie
April 26, 2024 | Women's Rowing - Lightweight
PRINCETON – The No. 1 Princeton Women's Lightweight Rowing Team welcomes the No. 5 Georgetown Hoyas to Lake Carnegie Saturday for the Class of 2006 Cup.
Princeton and Georgetown have competed for the Class of 2006 Cup since the 2007 season, although they have raced nine times in the regular season since 1999. The Tigers lead the all-time series, 18-1, having won the last three races.
Head coach Paul Rassam's group has taken down Radcliffe and Stanford this season.
The 2X started the racing with a 7:58.8, 1.8 seconds in front of the Cardinal (8:00.67). Stanford's 4+ picked up the win, crossing the line at 7:37.4, nine seconds ahead of Princeton (7:46.5). The 1V closed the action with a 6:43.67, 6.48 seconds ahead to win the Class of 2015 Cup for the third straight event.
With a strong crosswind, the 2X began the action with an impressive 18.7-second victory (8:19.1-8:37.8) over Radcliffe. The varsity four responded with an 8:06.8, 2.5-seconds clear of the road squad (8:09.3). The 1V collected its fifth straight Class of 1999 Cup, rowing across the line at 6:54.6, ahead by 3.3 seconds.
"We've been so locked in on taking our spring season one weekend at a time that we haven't truly taken a moment to realize the limited time we actually have left with the graduating seniors on our team," said Elena Every. "That's why this weekend against Georgetown is so special. Not only are we excited for our last dual race before we get into championship season, but it's really a bittersweet moment for us as it marks the last time our seniors will ever race down Carnegie. I think we all just want to honor them and their commitment to this team over the past four years by putting down the best piece we can so that they can close their Princeton career on a really strong note."
