Yeager's Fourth Career OT Goal Gives Princeton A 1-0 Win Over Miami
September 13, 2024 | Field Hockey
Hope Delaney, Gracie McGowan and Robyn Thompson got it to overtime, where Beth Yeager did what she's now done four times in her career.
Yeager cashed in an overtime goal to give the Princeton field hockey team a win for the fourth time, this one on a penalty stroke 1:02 into the extra session to give the Tigers a 1-0 win over Miami (Ohio) on Bedford Field Friday afternoon.
Princeton, the No. 15 team in the country, improved to 2-1 on the young season and will now play at Penn State Sunday at noon.
The game had a scoreless 60 minutes of regulation, largely because of three sterling defensive plays on Princeton's part. Delaney had a defensive save after a shot trickled past the goalie Thompson in the third quarter, and then McGowan made a huge takeaway on a potential two-on-one for the RedHawks.
Thompson, the reigning Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week, made three saves, the biggest with less than two minutes to go when she threw her left leg out on a shot that was headed for the far post.
Yeager then did her thing on the first Tiger possession of the overtime, dribbling into the circle, where she was taken down to draw the stroke. After a video review confirmed the call, she then drilled it into the top left corner of the cage to end it.

And Beth Yeager wins it for the Tigers on an OT penalty stroke after drawing the foul in the circle. Tigers 1, Miami 0.
