PRINCETON, N.J. – After winning its last match against St. John's, the Princeton men's soccer team returns home on Tuesday, September 17 to take on the Colgate Raiders. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Roberts Stadium. Â
About the Tigers
- Princeton most recently defeated St. John's 2-1 on the road in Queens last Tuesday, marking the Tigers' first win of the season.
- Sophomore forward Kevin Kelley recorded a goal and an assist in the match, a performance which earned him a mention on the Ivy League Weekly Honor Roll.
- Junior forward Daniel Ittycheria also scored for the Tigers, recording his second goal of the season and his second goal in two games for Princeton.
- Senior captain Harry Roberts and junior defender Giuliano Fravolini Whitchurch also each have a goal to their credit this season, scoring against Rutgers and the University of New Hampshire, respectively.
- Khamari Hadaway has been solid in goal for the Tigers, recording 90 minutes in all three matches so far and making eight saves on the season.
- Princeton has looked dangerous offensively, as the Tigers are currently tied for 24th nationally in shot accuracy (.500) and averaging 5.33 corners per game.
- The Tigers finished the 2023 season 4-8-3, going 1-4-2 in Ivy league play.Â
- Ittycheria finished the 2023 season with nine goals and one assist last year, ranking second in the Ivy League in goals scored, points (19), and shots on goal (1.53/G). His performance also earned him First Team All-Ivy honors.
- Senior forward Nico Nee also led the Tigers with three goals and six assists for 11 points on the season. He was sixth in the league for assists and 10th for points.Â
- Junior midfielder Jasinski was named Second Team All-Ivy last year after being a dependable force in the Tiger lineup.
- In addition to Hadaway and Roberts, fellow senior Issa Mudashiru was elected as co-captain to lead the 2024 Tiger side. Â
About the New Tigers
- The Tigers' Class of 2028 was ranked the no. 13 recruiting class by TopDrawerSoccer, including Cyrus Klinenberg (No. 77), Kristian Kelley (No. 82), Roka Tsunehara (No. 113), Dash Papez (No. 116), and Nathan Salerno.
- The Tiger newcomers are already making significant contributions to the Orange and Black's success, with Papez recording two starts and Tsunehara recording one. Papez, Tsunehara and Zhang have a combined 353 minutes on the season across the Tigers' three matches.
- Freshman forward Tsunehara was named to the TopDrawerSoccer preseason All-Freshman team on August 20. The Burlingame, Calif., native was the 2022 MLS Next U16 National MVP. He was also a leading scorer for the San Jose Earthquakes U17 team as they reached the semifinals of the MLS Next cup in 2023.Â
- Klinenberg was a two-time United Soccer Coaches All-American in 2022 and 2023.Â
- A pair of new Tigers hail from the D.C. United academy system, as Papez and Zhang led their team to win the U16 MLS Next Cup Playoffs while making deep runs in both his U15 and U17 years. Both have also played with USL Championship team Loudoun United.
- Versatile midfielder Kelley joins his brother Kevin on the team, bringing experience with the Real Monarchs MLS Next Pro team and stints with Paris Saint-Germain and RCD Espanyol.Â
- Freshman goalkeeper Salerno comes to Princeton after playing with the Columbus Crew II and helping secure key victories in the MLS Next Pro playoffs.
About Coach Barlow
- Head coach Jim Barlow is in his 28th season as the men's soccer head coach and has accumulated 211 career wins with the Tigers, the most for any soccer coach in Princeton history, men's or women's. Barlow was also named the 2021 Ivy League Coach of the Year.
About Colgate
- The Raiders are 3-2-1 on the season and are 1-0 in conference play after defeating Lafayette in their Patriot League opener, 2-1, on Saturday. Blake Pipkin and Jacob Blackwin each scored a goal in the contest.
- John Beerling and Alex St. John each have two goals to their credit this season, with five other Raiders contributing a goal apiece to the Colgate offense.
- Oliver Townend has spent five matches in goal for the Raiders, recording 20 saves and one shutout for a 1.20 goals against average.
- Colgate had a notable 1-0 win against then-no. 13 Virginia earlier this season on August 25.
- The Raiders finished the 2023 season with an overall record of 8-10-2 and 4-3-2 in Patriot League play.
- Tuesday will mark just the sixth all-time meeting between the Tigers and the Raiders, with Princeton holding the advantage 3-2. The last meeting between the two sides was in 2021 in Hamilton, N.Y., in which the Tigers took the 2-0 victory.Â
