Women's Soccer Team Takes 3-0 Win in Ivy Opener at Cornell
September 28, 2024 | Women's Soccer
Two goals in less than three minutes before the midway point of the first half got Princeton out to a lead and the Tigers rolled on to a 3-0 win in the Ivy League opener on Saturday at Cornell.
The win lifts Princeton to 5-3 on the season overall along with the 1-0 start to the Ivy season. Princeton outshot the Big Red 24-8 overall and 6-1 on goal, keeping Cornell without a shot on frame for the final 77-plus minutes.Â
Kate Toomey opened the scoring when she headed in a free kick that Heather MacNab sent into the box 17-plus minutes into the game, and less than three minutes later, Toomey sent back a ball that Big Red goalkeeper Erica Fox tried to clear. Instead, Toomey's return found Isabella Garces, who freed herself from Fox and a pair of Big Red defenders in the box to send it in.
Just more than 10 minutes later, with 13 minutes and change before halftime, Lily Bryant took a shot from the edge of the 18 that found a Big Red defender, and Alexandra Barry powered home the rebound to push the Princeton lead to 3-0.
Princeton will host Lafayette on Tuesday night at Roberts Stadium to being a three-game homestand, continuing the Ivy season with a visit from Brown next Saturday.
