Scatchard Smashes Mile Record on Day Two of Dr. Sander Invitational
January 25, 2025 | Women's Track and Field
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Mena Scatchard set a new program record in the mile and earned herself a top-10 spot nationally as the Tigers closed out day two of the Dr. Sander Invitational on Saturday.
At the Armory, Scatchard ran a blazing time of 4:32.95 in the pro-elite mile, clearing the previous Princeton record of 4:36.53, set by Maggie Liebich '24 at last year's BU Valentine Invite. Her time earned her 6th at the event, and also ranks sixth on the current NCAA qualifying list.
"Mena's race was absolutely spectacular! She ran fearlessly among some of the fastest women in the country to crush our school record. Her time is also 4th best in Ivy history. There is no doubt there is more in the tank too!" - Head Coach Michelle Eisenreich
"Mena had an outstanding day on the oval. She demonstrated once again that she is one of the premier middle distance athletes in the country by holding her own against an elite field of professional athletes. In only her second mile of her collegiate career, Mena demolished the school record and ran the fourth fastest mark in Ivy League History. She managed the crowded starting line with masterful poise and patience, moving from 15th to 6th over the last 600m and recorded the fastest last 200m of the entire field. Our indoor schedule will provide Mena opportunities to build upon her 2025 debut as the team prepares for the Ivy League Championships and NCAA Championships in March. Go Tigers!" - Assistant Coach Brad Hunt
Continuing the Tigers' strong performance, Princeton took third in the 4x400 invitational as Adelaide Asante, Lauren Harris, Jazmyn Singh and Maisha Atkinson ran a time of 3:43.37 for 3rd place. Atkinson ran a 54.91 anchor leg to put the Tigers in the 44th spot nationally in the event.
Singh also took fourth place in the seeded 200m, running 24.77.
In the 5000m invitational, Lucca Fulkerson took fourth place with a time of 16:21.85, clocking in under the Dr. Sander Invitational record and setting a new personal best. Anna McNatt was close behind her with 16:33.03 for fifth place.
In the field events, Georgina Scoot was invited to compete in the pro-elite long jump, taking fifth place with a mark of 6.08m.
Makenna Marshall (14.54m), Shantell Kwofie (14.38m) and Layla Giordano (14.34m) took sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, in the shot put invitational, with Marshall setting a new personal-best.
With eyes looking ahead towards March as the Tigers continue to land high up on the NCAA lists, Princeton will look to build on this performance next weekend at the Penn State National meet on January 31st and February 1st in University Park.
