#5 Princeton Battles JMU to a 1-1 Draw in Harrisonburg
October 14, 2025 | Men's Soccer
HARRISONBURG, VA. – The #5 Princeton men's soccer team drew JMU, 1-1, on Tuesday night in Harrisonburg, Va.
Despite registering nine shots on goal throughout the match, the lone goal for the Tigers came from Bardia Hormozi, who scored his fourth of the season with Jack Jasinski picking up his fourth assist.
With the draw, the Tigers are now 9-1-1 on the season while JMU is 1-7-3.
"We played well against another good opponent tonight, and we created a lot of chances and corners. Credit to JMU, they battled and found the first goal. Our guys responded well to that, but ultimately couldn't find a winner." - Head Coach Jim Barlow
How It Happened
The Tigers were knocking for a majority of the first half, controlling possession and creating chances with Hormozi forcing two saves by JMU keeper Erik Jaspers in the first 20 minutes.
In the 34th minute, Hormozi launched a solid shot towards the upper left of the goal, but Jaspers jumped up to punch the ball away.
With Roka Tsunehara and Kristian Kelley each registering two of their own, the Tigers would end the half with 11 shots and six on goal.
Still, the match was scoreless at the break.
Coming out of the break, it was JMU on the attack as they peppered Tiger keeper Andrew Samuels with shots during a chaotic play within the six. Samuels, keeping his eye on the ball, came up with four saves in the three minute period.
However, in the 52nd minute, JMU broke through and scored to go up 1-0.
That lead did not last long, though, as the Tigers sent it straight down the other end and equalized not even a minute later; Jasinski served up a free kick into the box, where Hormozi headed it into the bottom right of the net to tie the game.
The rest of the match was an end-to-end battle, as the Tigers continued to ask questions of Jaspers while taking another 12 shots. Quick on the counters, JMU was able to get a few good looks, but they could not put another past Samuels.
After a Duke ejection with seven to go, the Tigers turned up the pressure even more, with a shot by Ian Nunez hitting the post in the 86th.
Still, Princeton was not able to find another goal, and the 1-1 draw stood final.
