Olivia Caponiti Named NFHCA Division I Defensive Player Of The Week
October 22, 2025 | Field Hockey
Olivia Caponiti has been named the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association Division I Defensive Player of the Week.
Caponiti, Princeton's junior goalie, has been a two-time Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week in this, her first year as a starter. She earned the NFHCA and Ivy honors this week after having a 12-save, three-goals against run through three Princeton wins.Â
It started when she had a season-best six saves in Princeton's 3-2 win over No. 1 Northwestern, ending the Wildcats 15-game winning streak. Caponiti made two of her saves in the final 30 seconds on a pair of Northwestern penalty corners. She then needed only one save to shut out Cornell and followed that with five more saves in a 5-1 win over No. 13 Monmouth.Â
Caponiti now ranks ninth in Division I in goals-against average at 0.99 per game.
Beth Yeager, the reigning Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week, was the NFHCA's national Honorable Mention selection on offense after her four-goal week.Â
The big week was part of Princeton's current six-game winning streak that has seen the team vault to No. 2 in the Division I RPI ratings and a season-best No. 5 in the NFHCA coaches' poll. The Tigers are at Brown (No. 14 in RPI) Friday at 2:30 and then home Sunday at noon against Penn State.Â
