Women's Volleyball Earns Season Sweep Of Columbia

NEW YORK – Powered by a .306 hitting percentage, the Princeton University women's volleyball team got past Columbia, 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-20), inside Levien Gymnasium Friday night to earn the season sweep over the Lions.
Lucia Scalamandre turned in a dominant individual performance, compiling a match-high 18 kills on an .800 hitting percentage along with a match-high four blocks. Sydney Draper handed out a match-high 35 assists, while Sydney Bold tallied a match-high 11 digs along with a match-high three service aces. Valerie Nutakor also recorded 11 digs, tying the match-high with Bold.
The first set started as a back-and-forth battle, with a 4-0 Columbia run putting the Lions in front, 16-13. With Columbia up 18-15, a Draper kill ignited a 6-0 run that changed the trajectory of the set and gave Princeton a 21-18 lead. The Tigers took set point at 24-19 after a kill by Shelby Burriss then a Lion service error gave Princeton the 25-20 win in the opening set.
With the Tigers ahead 7-5 in the second set, a Burriss kill led a 4-0 run that saw the Tigers go up, 11-5. Princeton would remain in control for the remainder of the set, taking a double figure lead at 23-13 after a Columbia attacking error. It was a Scalamandre who put down the kill on set point, as the Tigers took the second set, 25-14.
An early 5-0 run by Columbia propelled the Lions to an early 10-3 lead. The momentum stayed with Columbia early, but with the score at 14-10 a Nutakor kill led a 4-0 Princeton run that tied it at 14-14. With the score knotted at 16-16 a 5-0 run put the Tigers ahead 21-15, before a Lion service error gave the Tigers match point at 24-19. Lia Skufca connected with Ava Harrington for the kill on match point, as the Tigers triumphed in the third set, 25-20.
