Princeton Earns No. 2 Seed In NCAA Tournament, Will Host Opening Rounds
November 09, 2025 | Field Hockey
The Princeton field hockey team made the long but happy bus ride home after its Ivy League tournament championship win at Harvard Sunday. When the Tigers arrived back on campus, they had confirmation that there will be no need to get on a bus this coming weekend.Â
The NCAA tournament selections were announced Sunday, and Princeton earned the No. 2 seed and a host role for the opening rounds. The Tigers will play on Bedford Field Friday at noon in the first round against the winner of the play-in game between Boston University, the champion of the Patriot League, and Fairfield, the champion of the MAAC, to be held Wednesday at 2, also in Princeton.
The other two teams who will be in town will be Liberty, the Big East champion, and Syracuse, who received an at-large bid out of the ACC. Those two will play Friday at 2:30, and the winners of Friday's games will meet Sunday, with a spot at the Final Four at Duke the prize for the victor of that game.Â
Princeton won the Ivy League automatic bid with its dramatic 2-1 win over previously unbeaten Harvard Sunday in Cambridge in a game that ended the Crimson's 17-game winning streak while pushing Princeton's to 11 straight. Harvard drew the No. 3 seed and will also be a host site, along with No. 1 seed North Carolina and No. 4 seed Virginia.Â
Yale also earned an at-large bid, giving the Ivy League three teams in the NCAA field for the first time ever.Â
The NCAA appearance will be the 27th for the Tigers, who reached the quarterfinals a year ago.Â
Ticket information will be available Monday.Â
