Koonin Sets Program Hit Streak Record On Opening Day At Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla.- Jake Koonin recorded a hit in 38 of the team's 44 games. This season he is now one for one and broke the program's record with 21 consecutive games with a base hit.
Koonin was the first base runner for the Tigers after being hit by the pitch in the first inning. Jake Bold followed that up with a walk but Princeton was unable to take advantage as the game stayed scoreless.
Sean Episcope toed the rubber for the Tigers on opening day and started the season off with a two strikeout inning.
The Hurricanes struck first in the bottom of the second on a two-run homer over the left field wall and was the difference maker in the matchup.
Tommy Googins reached on a throwing error before Princeton recorded its first hit thanks to Koonin's single. With a runner in scoring position, Bold shot a hit to left field as Googins came around to score. Koonin was sent to third but tagged out as the game moved to the bottom of the third.
Episcope's night ended after five innings of work and notched six punchouts and two earned runs on three hits.
Justin Kim took over in relief in the bottom of the sixth. Miami added an insurance run on a throwing error.
Faulkner finished the final inning with a strikeout to avoid any more offense from the Hurricanes as the game finished with a score of 3-1.
Bold was the highlight of the offense with a 2-3 with an RBI.
The Tigers will face the Hurricanes in a doubleheader matchup tomorrow at 2:00 PM and 5:30 PM at Mark Light Field.
