Men's Lightweight Rowing Wins Murtaugh and Fosburgh Cups To Open 2025

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University men's lightweight rowing team opened the 2025 season with victories over Navy and Georgetown Saturday at Lake Carnegie, earning the Murtaugh and Fosburgh Cups.
The Tigers won the Joseph Murtaugh Cup, named after the former Princeton and U.S. lightweight rowing coach, for the third consecutive season. Princeton improved to 13-3 all-time against the Midshipmen. The Tigers' triumph over the Hoyas saw Princeton win the Fosburgh Cup for the ninth-straight season.
The Tigers 1V (5:37.5) earned the win over Navy (5:40.8), as did the 2V, who finished in 5:53.5, ahead of the Midshipmen's 5:46.3. Princeton's 3V (5:52.9) also prevailed over Navy (5:49.1) while the 4V (6:16.2) finished second to Navy's 4V (5:57.0) and ahead of the Midshipmen's 5V (6:16.7).
Against Georgetown, Princeton's 1V (5:48.5) finished ahead of the Hoyas' 1V (5:57.4). The Tigers' 2V came in just behind Georgetown, crossing the line at 6:08.6 to the Hoyas' 6:05.6. In a combined race with Princeton's 3V and 4V along with Georgetown's 3V, the Tigers' 3V earned the win in 6:06.1. The Hoyas came in second in 6:08.2 and Princeton's 4V third in 6:44.2.
