No. 10 Women's Water Polo Heads To Bucknell Saturday

PRINCETON – The No. 10 Princeton Women's Water Polo team finishes CWPA play this weekend at the Bucknell Bison.
The Tigers and Bison play Saturday at 2 p.m. With a victory, the Tigers will clinch the No. 1 seed in the CWPA Tournament based on their +3-goal differential against Harvard.
Princeton has won five straight games since coming back from its Spring Break trip and sits 18-6 overall. Bucknell is 14-11 this season and 4-7 in CWPA action. The Tigers lead the all-time series with the Bison, 52-8, with their last loss coming in 2016.
Shanna Davidson (Player) and Lindsey Lucas (Defensive Player) most recently won CWPA weekly honors. Davidson produced five goals, seven assists and five steals as the Tigers went 3-0 last weekend over Mercyhurst, No. 14 Michigan and Saint Francis. Lucas made 12 saves vs. No. 14 Michigan including a 5M stop with four seconds to go preserve the win. She also had eight stops vs. Saint Francis. For the season, Lucas is 14-6 with a .549 save percentage and 202 stops.
Kayla Yelensky leads the team in scoring with 81 goals and 99 points overall, adding 41 drawn ejections. She is currently tied for third all-time with 265 tallies while her 81 this season is just the sixth time a Tiger has ever recorded 80+ goals in a season. Rachael Carver has already surpassed her career best in goals with 39 while also producing 47 helpers, 24 steals and 22 drawn ejections. Ava Houlahan has also set a new personal best with 35 tallies along with 25 assists and 28 steals. Davidson has an almost even split of goals (32) and assists (33). Other top goal scorers include Emese Batizi (24), Olivia Krotts (20), Ally Lurie (16), Kate Mallery (16), Kendall Wyer (15) and Charlotte Riches (12).
Head coach Derek Ellingson recently earned the USA Water Polo Northeast Zone Sandy Nitta Award. Overall, Ellingson has led the team to a 121-39 mark in his six campaigns as head coach. Princeton has won consecutive CWPA crowns and reached the NCAA Semifinals in 2023. It marked the first time that a non-West Coast school reached the Final Four since 2016.
