No. 1 Women's Lightweight Rowing Opens Racing At IRA National Championship

CAMDEN, N.J. – The No. 1 Princeton University women's lightweight rowing team opened racing at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championships Saturday at the Cooper River, sending all three boats to their Grand Finals. The Tigers will look to win a fourth straight Commissioner's Cup during tomorrow's final session.
"Today we didn't execute the way we wanted," said Head Coach Paul Rassam. "We can do better than that. Tomorrow is a new day."
The 2x opened the afternoon by earning a spot in its Grand Final, coming in third (8:17.610) and edging Radcliffe (8:39.590) for the opportunity to race for a medal tomorrow. MIT (8:02.560) took first and Wisconsin (8:06.300) second.
The 4x followed with a second-place (7:33.780) finish in its heat and will also compete in tomorrow's Grand Final. The Tigers finished just behind MIT (7:30.700) and ahead of Boston University (7:38.320).
In Princeton's final race of the day, the 8+ (6:32.070) came in a close second behind Radcliffe (6:29.150) and in front of Georgetown (6:39.370). The 8+ will aim to win a fifth consecutive gold medal in tomorrow's Grand Final.
