IRCA Names Patrick Long Finalist For The Oarsman
June 30, 2025 | Heavyweight Rowing
PRINCETON, N.J. – Patrick Long of the Princeton University heavyweight rowing team has been named one of eight finalists for the The Oarsman by the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA).
More than a standout performer, The Oarsman is a generational talent: someone whose collegiate record is not only impressive but, in many cases, unprecedented within their program. Though only one crew may win gold, this award recognizes the individual who has made their team greater through tireless dedication, transformative impact, and uncompromising excellence.
"Pat has shown a level of performance and leadership that has significantly expanded our team's level of success to heights we have rarely seen," said Head Coach Greg Hughes. "I believe it is a level of performance that is very worthy of consideration for the Oarsman."
The Oarsman award stands as a tribute to those rare athletes who achieve greatness not only through personal excellence but through a lasting commitment to their team, their sport, and the values that define true champions.
Long collected IRCA First Team All-America honors in 2025, helped the 1V win bronze at Eastern Sprints and finish fourth in the Grand Final at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship. He helped the 1V win bronze at IRAs in 2024, and silver at Eastern Sprints in 2024 and 2023. A 2024 Second Team All-American, Long contributed to the Tigers becoming the Henley Royal Regatta Ladies' Plate Champion that summer. In addition, Long helped the Tigers earn a Lake Carnegie best time and win the Content Cup against Brown in 2025.
