Princeton has not faced Duke since the 2023 campaign but heads into the weekend riding momentum after earning its first victory of the season.
That breakthrough win was powered by an impressive showing from freshman pitchers Brady Kaufman and Ryan Penney, along with sophomore Isaac Lamson. In game two of the doubleheader against NC State, Lamson accounted for the game's only run, recording his first home run of the season in the top of the sixth inning.
The freshman duo made a statement in their collegiate debuts against NC State. Kaufman got the start, delivering five strong innings while surrendering just one hit and striking out three to earn his first career win.
Penney followed with a poised performance. He retired eight of the first nine batters he faced and later took the mound in the ninth inning. After the Wolfpack led off their final at-bat with a double, Penney responded with a fly out and consecutive strikeouts to shut the door and secure the shutout victory.
Following opening weekend, both freshmen were recognized with Ivy honors as Kaufman earned Pitcher of the Week and Penney nabbed Rookie of the Week.
Four of the Tigers' graduated seniors kept busy in the off season, earning professional contracts: Matt Scannell signed with the Blue Jays, Jake Bold with the Padres, Caden Shapiro with the Pirates, while Sean Episcope was selected in the draft by the Milwaukee Brewers.
