Baseball Battles In Doubleheader At South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Princeton Baseball fell in both games of a doubleheader to the South Carolina Gamecocks.
South Carolina 10, Princeton 7
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning. Jake Koonin started the scoring with an RBI double that brought Joe Montembeau home. Will Robbins added to the advantage with another double, driving in Koonin.
South Carolina answered with a home run in the bottom half of the inning, but Princeton regained momentum in the fourth. Grant Werdesheim delivered a two-run single through the right side, scoring Tommy Googins and Brady Kaufman to push the Tigers back in front.
The Tigers continued to produce offensively in the fifth inning when Will Robbins came through again bringing Montembeau across the plate and extend Princeton's lead.
South Carolina responded by scoring five runs across the fifth and seventh innings to take control of the game.
Princeton fought back in the eighth inning to narrow the gap. Jake Kernodle sparked the rally with a two-run double that allowed Werdesheim and Bennett Crerar to touch home to get within striking distance. However, the Gamecocks held on over the final frames to secure the 10–7 victory.

The Tigers struck first in the first when Koonin drove in Crerar with an RBI to give Princeton an early lead. In the second, Werdeshiem extended the advantage with a double that brought Christian Clarke to the plate
South Carolina didn't respond until the fifth inning, when the Gamecocks pushed across two runs to even the score. Koonin answered in the sixth, launching his first home run of the season to put Princeton back on top, 3–2.
The Gamecocks tied the game in the bottom of the seventh after a bases-loaded walk. Logan Sutter delivered a home run in the eighth to give South Carolina the lead.
Princeton will wrap up the series against South Carolina tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
