Princeton hasn't faced South Carolina since the 2018 season, but the Tigers enter the weekend with momentum after picking up their second win of the year. Last weekend, Princeton traveled to Duke, earning an 8–7 comeback victory over the Blue Devils in the second game of a March 1 doubleheader.
After falling behind early, the Tigers chipped away at the deficit. The Tigers completed the comeback in the ninth. With two out and the bases loaded, Joe Montembau walked to make it a one-run game.
Duke threatened in the bottom of the ninth, but Princeton's defense held strong. Tommy Googins made an impressive play to open the inning, ranging to his left and throwing out the runner. Elliott Eaton then struck out the next batter before a foul out sealed the Tigers' comeback victory.
Koonin led Princeton with three hits and two runs scored. Will Sword struck out four over three innings of relief, while Eaton earned the win, allowing just two hits over the final three frames.
Tomas Cernius leads the team with six hits and a batting average of .316, while Justin Kim leads the teams pitchers with a 4.00 ERA, eight hits and seven strikeouts.
Four of the Tigers' graduated seniors kept busy in the off season, earning professional contracts: After completing a graduate year at Wake Forest, Matt Scannell signed with the Blue Jays, Jake Bold as a junior signed with the Padres, Caden Shapiro with the Pirates, while Sean Episcope, also a junior, was selected in the draft by the Milwaukee Brewers.
