Rachel Dawson is in her first season working as an assistant coach with the Princeton field hockey team. Dawson has extensive experience playing with the U.S. National Team, in the top Dutch Professional League and at the University of North Carolina.
Dawson has been a part of the U.S. National Field Hockey Team since 2001 and is a current member of the National Team. She has represented the U.S. at countless international competitions including the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, the 2007 Pan American Games and the 2006 World Cup. Dawson was the 2008 Olympic Qualifier Player of the Tournament and was a nominee for Young Player of the World in 2006.
"We feel very lucky to have someone of Rachel's caliber join our Princeton staff," says Princeton field hockey coach Kristen Holmes-Winn. "Rachel's range of experiences as an athlete at the collegiate level, top dutch league and with our USA national program gives her a compelling depth of knowledge both on the technical and tactical side of the game as well as from a leadership perspective. She is bright, passionate, creative and committed to the development of our players. I know she will mix in perfectly with our team and staff."
Dawson has also played professionally in the Netherlands since graduating from North Carolina. At UNC, Dawson graduated in 2007 as the Honda Award Winner as the nation's top field hockey player and a 2008 ESPY nominee for Female College Athlete of the Year. She was also an Academic All-America and the 2007 ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
