Chris Young scored 22 points, including a key layup with 41.8 seconds to play, as Princeton held off a furious second-half charge to defeat Athletes in Action 64-60 in front of 1,175 at Jadwin Gym in an exhibition game Sunday afternoon.
Princeton led 38-27 at intermission and 58-39 with 10 minutes to play before a 19-2 run by Athletes in Action cut it to 60-58. Young's layup built the lead to four again, and after another AIA basket, Ahmed El-Nokali hit two foul shots with 8.6 seconds left to seal it.
Young, last year's Ivy League Rookie of the Year in basketball and baseball, was 9 for 11 from the field, 4 of 5 from three-point range, en route to his 22 points, and he added seven rebounds, two assists and two blocks in 40 minutes. C.J. Chapman, who also played all 40 minutes, had 10 points as the only other Tiger in double figures.
Mason Rocca, playing only the first half, finished with eight points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals. El-Nokali and Eugene Baah also had eight points apiece. Princeton opens its regular season Nov. 12 at the NABC Classic against host Syracuse.
