PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) - Spencer Gloger set a Princeton freshman record with 34 points, tied an Ivy League record and set a school record for 3-pointers Saturday night to help the Tigers to a 64-41 win over the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Winning its fifth straight, Princeton (6-4) held UAB (7-3) to its lowest score since a 41-39 win over South Alabama in 1995. The Blazers were averaging 85 points entering the game and had scored a total of 194 in their last two contests.
Gloger's 10 3-pointers helped Princeton tie a school record with 17 3-pointers, tied Penn's Matt Maloney for the most threes by an Ivy League player in one game, and broke Matt Lapin's school record of eight, set in a 1990 game against Harvard. Gloger's 34 points broke Kit Mueller's freshman mark of 28 in the 1987-88 season and were the most by any Princeton player since Rick Hielscher had 34 against Dartmouth in 1995.
Gloger was 12-for-15 overall and 10-for-12 from 3-point range. He made all seven of his second-half shots.
UAB shot 30 percent and had 19 turnovers as Mark Kimbrough led the Blazers with nine points.
Princeton jumped to a 20-8 lead in the game's first nine minutes as Gloger hit four 3-pointers and 14 points. The Tigers shot 1-for-15 for the remainder of the half, but UAB could only close to 23-17 as the Blazers were an icy 23 percent from the floor.
