Tigers Fall Short Against Xavier

CINCINNATI (AP) - David West and Maurice McAfee each hit two free throws down the stretch as Xavier held off Princeton's late rally for a 58-54 victory Monday night.
Princeton (6-6) trimmed Xavier's seven-point lead to 51-49 with about five minutes left before the Musketeers (8-2) responded with Lloyd Price's jump hook and free throws from West and McAfee to push the lead back to eight points.
Kevin Frey led Xavier with 14 points. McAfee added 13 and Williams scored 12. West had four points and 12 rebounds.
Spencer Gloger led Princeton with 17 points, including 15 in the second half on 5-of-8 3-pointers. Chris Young added 16 points and eight rebounds.
The win was Xavier's the fourth straight, while Princeton dropped its second straight after a five-game winning streak.
McAfee opened the second half with five consecutive points to give the Musketeers their largest lead, 34-22. Princeton's Mike Bechtold responded with five in row of his own to spark a 12-0 run to tie it up 34-34.
Frey scored 12 points in the first half, including six in an 8-0 run over the final four minutes that put Xavier ahead 29-22 at the break.
Princeton, which had been averaging only 4.7 turnovers a game, committed seven in the first half and 16 overall. Xavier, which was averaging 19.6 turnovers, had only seven.
